What does luxury mean to you?
AA: It's
something that is between high creativity and high quality. It's art. But
luxury has become easier to buy, so it has somehow lost its value. The worst
are the five-star hotels, which are called "luxury".
MG: What will be the next luxury
property center in your opinion?
AA: The United States remains a rich market and
Americans will travel further north and south instead of east and west. We will
see them buying houses in Canada, the Caribbean (places like San Bartolomé and
Santo Domingo) and South America. The next big real estate boom will be along
the vertical axis, from Greenland to Ushuaia in Argentina.
There is a
lot of room for growth in Latin America in terms of prices. In S ã o Paulo, a
place with 79 billionaires, you can buy an apartment for the price of a dip in
Manhattan. Life there is amazing and there are a lot of opportunities.
MG:
What is the main surprise of the luxury real estate market today ?
AA: The physical concentration of the population.
If you want to make things happen, there are places where you have to be.
California's Silicon Valley is the first example. People who work in the
digital world can be anywhere, but they are always in the same place. There is
a value in being physically together.
That is
reassuring for the future of the luxury real estate market. There are no more
deserted islands and people move less and less.
